When to choose 1:2500
Choose 1:2500 when a larger or rural site needs more surrounding land shown than a 1:1250 sheet can comfortably cover. It can show field boundaries, access routes and nearby landmarks in one view. Check which scale your planning authority requests for the application.
What the sample shows
The Cambridge examples cover 10, 15 and 20 hectares. This page shows the 20 hectare option. All three use the same printed scale; the coverage option changes the area framed on the sheet.
At 1:2500, 1 cm on the printed page represents 25 metres on the ground. It shows twice the distance of 1:1250 in the same space, with less room for individual building detail. For an even broader area, compare 1:5000.
The sample is centred on King's College, Cambridge and marked EXAMPLE. It illustrates the map output; mark your own site boundary and check the local authority's requirements when creating your plan.
