When to choose 1:5000
Choose 1:5000 when a landholding or project area needs a wider view than the available 1:2500 coverage. It helps show how roads, settlements and other features relate to the site, while smaller features will be less prominent. Check whether your planning authority also needs a closer location or block plan.
What the sample shows
The Cambridge examples cover 50, 75 and 80 hectares. This page shows the 80 hectare option. Each sheet keeps the 1:5000 scale and changes only the area included.
At 1:5000, 1 cm on the printed page represents 50 metres on the ground. It shows twice the distance of 1:2500 in the same space. A 1:10000 plan provides still wider regional context.
The sample is centred on King's College, Cambridge and marked EXAMPLE. It illustrates the map output; mark your own site boundary and check the local authority's requirements when creating your plan.
