// WHAT'S IN IT

Inside the dataset

The Buildings theme of the OS National Geographic Database (NGD) gives a single, authoritative record per building polygon. Each feature carries an OSID, building height (where surveyed), a use-class code where available, and links to addresses via UPRN.

This is the modern successor to deriving buildings from MasterMap. NGD Buildings is structured for analytics, retains stable identifiers across change, and is the cleanest input to any property, asset or risk pipeline.

Key features

  • 32M+ building polygons across GB
  • Persistent OSIDs - change-aware referencing
  • Building height where surveyed (LIDAR-derived)
  • Use-class context (residential, retail, industrial, etc.)
  • UPRN linkage to occupants and addresses

// COVERAGE & LICENSING

Licensed to fit, not bloat.

Every licence is sized to your actual usage. We'll always recommend the smallest coverage tier that solves your problem - and scale up as you do.

Single site

A specific site or property - typical for small consultancies and one-off projects.

Regional

A council area, county, region or custom polygon - typical for LAs, utilities and dev firms.

National (GB)

Full GB coverage - for prop-tech, insurance, multi-region utilities and national operators.

Bespoke

Custom AOI, mixed cadence, multi-tenant or co-built licence. We scope under NDA.

// FAQ

Common questions

How does NGD Buildings differ from MasterMap?

NGD is the modern OS data model - themed (Buildings, Land, Transport, Water, Structures) with stable OSIDs, attribute-rich and structured for analytics. Many MasterMap consumers are migrating onto NGD.

Are heights available everywhere?

Heights are populated where OS has surveyed buildings via LIDAR. Coverage is national but not 100% per-feature; we can scope coverage in your area of interest before licensing.

Can we link buildings to addresses?

Yes - buildings link to UPRNs (Unique Property Reference Numbers), so you can join AddressBase records and your own occupant data.

Is this delivered as an API?

Yes - we offer hosted API access, file delivery, and custom pipeline builds.
