Inside the dataset

OS AddressBase combines the Royal Mail PAF, Local Authority data and OS's own surveys into a single authoritative address dataset. Every record carries a UPRN - the persistent property identifier - and a postal address aligned with PAF.

This is the entry-level addressing product. If you need lifecycle (provisional, alternative, deleted) or coordinates accurate to the building, see AddressBase Plus and AddressBase Premium below.

Common questions

What is a UPRN?

A Unique Property Reference Number - a persistent identifier issued by Local Authorities and curated nationally by OS.

How does this differ from Plus / Premium?

AddressBase is the base postal address dataset. Plus adds non-postal addresses (e.g. car parks, sub-buildings). Premium adds full lifecycle (provisional, historic, alternative).

Can we get an autocomplete API?

Yes - we can host an addressing API tuned to your latency and rate-limit needs.

Is the PAF licence included?

Royal Mail PAF licensing is bundled by OS into AddressBase under partner terms.
